YULETIDE LETTER 2K13: LET'S DO THIS EDITION

Dear Yuletide Author:

Firstly, thanks for signing up and doing this. I'm sure that no matter what you write I will be generally squee-ful and joyous when I read it, especially because these are four FIVE fandoms where I'm dying for fic. But I guess these words of well-wishes generally don't help you figure out what you should write or will write, so let's get on outlining what I want in a roundabout way.

In generally, I like fics that range from G to PG13. Basically, I'm good as long as I'm not getting explicit smut. Also, I'd love if you could avoid the story from generally leaning too far into the direction of either super angst or super fluff. Generally, I'm a middle of the road girl who hates when stories are either too saccharine or so depressing that it just makes you want to cry and hole up in a ball for a few days. And if you can find a way to put a funny one-liner or two, I will love you forever.

Also it should be mentioned that I hate non-con, neck injuries, and vampires. I have no idea why you'd want to include vampires in any of these fandoms, but you shouldn't! Because they are terrifying. Because they cause neck injuries. (Aren't you so glad you got me, dear writer? I know!)

Now onto the requests!



THE CLASS

Characters Requested: Kat Warbler, Ethan Haas

The fact that there is basically no Kat/Ethan fic in the world makes me so sad. Because even though The Class was far from a perfect show, they were just so delightful. She was cynical & jaded & snarky, and he was a puppy dog who needed to be loved and they both had this great banter with one another but also this great reliance on one another, and it just made me ship them so hard. SO HARD. I basically learned what fandom was through this couple, so when the show got cancelled on that cliffhanger... I was devastated.

Therefore, I will take whatever fic you throw at me dealing with these two. Do you want to write a continuation of the season finale that has Kat figuring out her feelings, while Ethan pursues her before they come together (maybe he stops for a while when he finds out about her one night stand with Duncan, but then gets his head back in the game)? That'd make me joyful. Do you want to write a missing moments fic of times throughout the series where Kat thought there could be something more with Ethan? I'd be super into that. If you want to do a story where Kat and Ethan get banter-y and playful over some third grade memory, I'd be really into that too! As long as it has Kat/Ethan at its core, I'd be estatic!

And if it helps, other things I like about the series were Richie/Lina being cute, Kyle becoming BFF with Ethan (and by proxy Kat), and Lina & Kat's sisterly relationship in general. I'm also okay with Duncan/Nicole, but I wouldn't want it to be central to any story written.



CAROLINE IN THE CITY

Characters Requested: Annie Spadaro, Del Cassidy

Remember in the finale when we were given that delicious idea of Del & Annie becoming secret sex buddies only to have the show get cruelly cancelled? What I want/desperately need is the continuation of that story: Annie & Del secretly have sex, and feelings creep their way in, and everyone finds out and shenanigans ensue. If you want to have Richard & Caroline work out their issues in the background, and finally go official in couple-dom, I'd be cool with that, but I definitely need that secret!dating Annie/Del storyline up front. That this happened in the finale with no follow-up kills me, so any kind of conclusion with the two would make me giddy happy. (Update: I have no idea why I originally used the word "giddy". Let's just roll with it.)


THE NEWSROOM

Characters Requested: Don Keefer, Sloan Sabbith

To be completely honest here, I'm not a huge fan of The Newsroom. Or maybe, I am a fan of The Newsroom considering it's easily the show I talk about most on the internet, but it's never for the reasons one would usually request something for Yuletide. I hate most everything about The Newsroom, if I was going to be completely honest with you. And poor you, writer, if you paired up with me on this, because you are going to hate me. But yeah, I hate the lady politics on the show, and I hate Jim Harper, and when Will & Mackenzie got engaged on the season (series?) finale, I laughed because it was so absurdly done.

THAT BEING SAID, when the idea of the Don/Sloan pairing was thrown out in later episodes of season 1, I was so down with it. Don and Sloan have always seemed like the most fully realized characters to me. They have flaws, and they have strengths and they actually felt like real people instead of overglorified "heroes". (That said, to get all my feelings about this pairing, I would probably check out my Tumblr because I wrote BUCKETS about them this past year. I'm horrible at tagging so I can't find anything wholly representative but this link should do enough for you to get the picture of my devotion to these two.)

Anyway, what I'm asking for is some kind of fic revolving around the two of them. Maybe you focus on whether or not they knew each other before MacKenzie and Jim and Newsnight 2.0 rolled into town and what that was like. Maybe you can focus on exactly what those two were getting up to during all those times we didn't see them throughout both seasons (all the relationship build-up we missed because they are third tier characters!). If you still loved me even after I slammed your show so hard, you'd write fic that was basically what The Newsroom would be like if it centered around the production of the 10 PM hour*, because I like Elliot too! And I wish we could have seen more scenes with him & Don and him & Sloan last season. That would've been fun. Really anything and everything you have with the 10 PM crew would make me smile, also anything with makeouts. I don't know why I'm rambling so much here.

Feel free to have Will/Mac and Jim/Maggie or whatever happening in the background, but the emphasis would be on IN THE BACKGROUND. Don/Sloan really, really, really is what I'm dying for here.

*Did you know that Sorks originally planned to have Don/Sloan in s2 revolve around her taking over Elliot's show because he moved to daytime? While yes, I still love Elliot, if you want to do something with that "What If?" scenario feel free to do that as well.


TWO OF A KIND

Characters Requested: Kevin Burke, Carrie Moore

Going from a fandom I got into only recently, to the very first 'ship I ever had. I watched Two of a Kind when it reaired on Fox Family afterschool, when I was in the first grade and even back then I kind of knew that Kevin/Carrie were something that needed to happen. Years later when I rewatched it on a whim, I definitely have held onto that notion. They have great banter, they work together really well, and were basically so great that eventually the show forgot to write stories for Mary Kate & Ashley to make plotlines for them. And yet because of the quick cancellation we will never get resolution on the relationship between the two!

All that being said, what I really, really want is the story about what happens when Carrie returns from Brazil. Maybe Carrie comes back early, only to find out Kevin has a girlfriend and is heartbroken. Maybe Carrie brings back a free-lovin' hippie type that gets on Kevin's nerves. Maybe they are both single but not into discussing their feelings at the moment even if Matt and his Pocahontas cups really want them to. As long as it ends in make-outs and banter, I will follow any path you take these two! (Really, if you are uncomfortable with writing post-finale fic though, the major guidelines I have are banter and make outs with these two. I'd be easy to please in this non-existent fandom!)



GO ON

Characters Requested: Lauren, Steven

Here's the thing about Go On. It existed for me, I didn't really watch it, but I was cool with it existing. And then there are GIF sets of these two and their 99 percent compatibility rating and their singing and their avoiding each other because the chemistry was too much (DAMN JOHN CHO AND HIS KEIRA KNIGHTLEY CHEEKBONES!!!!). And I was on board, and I was excited for Go On and then there was no follow-through on any of this really AND THEN IT WAS CANCELLED. Cancelled! I don't know what is about TV shows getting cancelled before all the makeouts I want happen, but it's been a sad recurring theme in my life.

So anyway, dear writer! Things you can do! Give me the continuing story I knew I needed with hijinks and avoidance and maybe make outs? (Please make outs!) Give me the stuff I was so cruelly denied by NBC. And however else you want to decorate the fic with whatever side pairings you want, I'm cool with! I'm pretty lax here. Hijinks and make-outs and John Cho and his Keira Knightley cheekbones are really all I need.

I probably have a problem with that Keira Knightley cheekbones line. Whatever, it's like the tenth weirdest thing about this letter.
